Visualisation of my nemesis, the London rush hour

Economist London Tube visualised

Last week’s Economist has a great visualisation of how the London rush hour in the Underground network has evolved. Over the past decade the Tube has become more and more popular and the length of the rush hour has increased so that now there’s almost no escaping it.

The visualisation shows a heatmap of how many people use the network at a given hour and how this has evolved since 2001. The above is a big reason why when me and my wife moved house two years ago we wanted to live close to Shoreditch, where I work. And no, we didn’t want to live in Shoreditch, even though it’s setting records for how rapid the Gentrification there is happening (or the hipsterfication as the Telegraph calls it).

Strangely enough, when I’m in Reykjavik for any extended period of time, one of the things I miss the most is my arch nemeses (and secret love): The Tube.
